MAPLETON, N.D. (KFGO) – One man was arrested and another person sent to the hospital Tuesday night after a stolen motorcycle crashed near Mapleton following an attempted traffic stop.
Around 11:30 p.m., a Cass County sheriff’s deputy stopped three motorcycles about two miles east of Mapleton for speeding. One of the drivers who had a passenger on board fled north from the stop but law enforcement did not pursue.
A short time later, a deputy located an unoccupied crashed motorcycle a short distance from where the stop took place. After learning the motorcycle had been reported stolen out of Fargo, law enforcement set up a perimeter to search for the driver and passenger. A drone along with a West Fargo Police Department K9 team were deployed, and the driver and passenger were located a little over an hour later.
The passenger was transported to an area hospital to receive medical attention and the driver, 41 year-old Jake Baumann of Fargo, was arrested and transported to the Cass County jail on multiple charges including felony possession of stolen property and fleeing.
