BISMARCK (KFGO) – North Dakota’s Legislative session begins today (Tuesday) and Governor Doug Burgum will deliver his State of State Address to a joint session of the 68th Legislative Assembly at approximately 1:30 p.m.
Last month, Governor Burgum unveiled a historic executive budget that would be the most expensive in state history. The proposed $18.4 billion budget would increase state spending by more than 3%. His proposal includes income tax breaks and $3 billion in infrastructure funding.
Workforce and critical childcare shortages are expected to be among the highest priorities. Burgum is proposing a $167 million package to help address the workforce shortage and $76 million to improve the availability, quality, and affordability of child care.
Lawmakers will be looking at different proposals dealing with both property and income taxes.
Republicans have 43 more seats than Democrats in the Senate and 70 more in the House.
