JAMESTOWN, N.D. (KFGO) – A sex offender committed to the North Dakota State Hospital in Jamestown who walked away has been taken into custody.
State Patrol Captain Bryan Niewind says several motorists reported a man walking south on highway 281, about 13 miles south of Jamestown shortly after 6:30 a.m. Wednesday. A trooper responded and took 30-year old Jerry Stewart into custody without incident.
Stewart has violent tendencies and has a lengthy criminal history that includes assault. He was civilly committed to the state hospital for chemical dependency issues.
Stewart had been given a pass to walk on the hospital grounds Tuesday evening but never returned.

JAMESTOWN, N.D (KFGO) – Authorities are searching for a registered sex offender known to have violent tendencies who is on the loose from the North Dakota State Hospital in Jamestown on Tuesday evening. The state highway patrol says 30-year old Jerry Roy Stewart had a 15-minute pass to walk on the hospital’s grounds but failed to return. Stewart was committed to the hospital for chemical dependency issues.Stewart has a lengthy criminal history that includes assault and is currently on probation with the state’s department of corrections. Stewart has connections to the cities of Fargo, Moorhead, Valley City, Jamestown, and Bismarck. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black hoodie, and a beard. Stewart also has the letters ‘G’ and ‘R’ tattooed on the right side of his neck. If you see Stewart, don’t approach him.
