WEST FARGO, N.D. (KFGO) – Shortly after 4 a.m. Thursday, West Fargo Police responded to the 1200 block of Queens Way on a report of a vehicle break-in. A caller reported that a male had broken a window to gain access to an SUV and was inside.
As an officer located the vehicle, the burglar fled, and in doing so, struck the officer’s leg with the vehicle and then fled southbound on Veterans Boulevard.
Police pursued the SUV and deployed tire deflation devices at the intersection of Veteran’s Boulevard and 32nd Avenue East. The driver attempted to avoid the device, struck the raised median, and rolled the vehicle. The driver was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by West Fargo firefighters.
He was transported to a hospital for medical treatment. The injured officer was also treated at a hospital and released.
The suspect has been identified but his name has not been released. He’s facing charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, fleeing in a motor vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, fictitious registration, and unlawful entry into a motor vehicle. Additional charges are possible.
