The announcement was made today to cancel the 2020 Holiday Lights Parade in downtown Fargo. Downtown Community Partnership will replace the parade with Covid safe activities.
FARGO, N.D. (OCTOBER 22, 2020) – In partnership with our key sponsor Xcel Energy, the Downtown Community Partnership (DCP) has made the decision to put this year’s Xcel Energy Holiday Lights Parade on pause to protect the health and safety of attendees, participants and volunteers from COVID-19. For more than a decade the Xcel Energy Holiday Lights Parade has served as Fargo-Moorhead’s annual kick-off to the holidays and typically attracts thousands of spectators, along with hundreds of participants who decorate their parade entries with lights.
CDC guidelines and state recommendations continue to limit attendance at events and advise individuals over age 65 to avoid large gatherings.
“Xcel Energy has a proud history of supporting the Fargo-Moorhead community and the annual Holiday Lights Parade,” said Mark Nisbet, principal, Xcel Energy-North Dakota. “While the holidays will look different this year, we remain committed to the Downtown Community Partnership and want to help provide a safe and festive holiday season for all.”
Alternative holiday shopping and entertainment events will be announced soon on downtownfargo.com/holidays website.
