ST. PAUL, Minn. (KFGO-KDLM) – The Minnesota Department of Human Rights has announced that two Minnesota businesses discriminated against multiple Native Americans for refusing to accept both of their tribal identification cards from the Red Lake Nation and the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Tribe.
The DHR say an investigation found The Office Pub and Grill sports bar in Minneapolis refused to serve a customer using his tribal ID to show proof of age. It was also discovered that a woman was denied customer access to her bank account when she showed her tribal ID at Wings Financial Credit Union in Coon Rapids. Both people were denied service multiple times.
A release says that the DHR will work with both the businesses and individuals involved with the goal of seeking structural change to prevent future discrimination.
