DETROIT LAKES, Minn. (KFGO) – A Detroit Lakes man is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after a two-vehicle crash in Becker County.
The Minnesota State Patrol says the crash happened Friday night around 10:45 at the intersection of Highway 34 and County Road 29 in Erie Township.
Investigators say Gabriel Schermerhorn, 18, of Detroit Lakes was driving north on County Road 29 when his car hit an SUV traveling west on Highway 34.
William Januszewski, 65, of Detroit Lakes was riding in the SUV. He suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Essentia Health in Detroit Lakes.
Dustin Bristlin, 44, was also riding in the SUV. He was also taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
The SUV’s driver and a 3-year-old passenger were not hurt. Schermerhorn was also not injured.
The state patrol says alcohol is suspected in connection with Schermerhorn’s actions. The crash remains under investigation.
