FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – Badland Batteries specializes in making drone and lithium-ion batteries.
The drone batteries are able to have longer lifetimes, and fly at a high altitude and speed.
CEO of Badland Batteries Terri Zimmermann says the batteries that the company makes are for those who are in the military, giving them service to rely on.
“You are standing in the first United States lithium-ion battery factory that was purposed built for drones and autonomous systems. It’ll be the first factory that has a domestic solution end-to-end. Innovation to battery cells, to integrated into battery packs,” Zimmermann says.
Badland Batteries main focus for making such batteries, is to be sure they are American made, and do not receive materials from anywhere else.
Officials say Badland Batteries also provides assistance with public safety, search and rescue and wildfires.
“So we are developing a supply chain that might be from beginning to end here, as far as our battery program in our state of North Dakota,” Republican State Senator Dale Patten of Watford City said.
Badland Batteries builds battery packs that can withstand extreme weather conditions, as well as have more energy.
Packet Digital landed a $50 million federal award to ramp up domestic battery manufacturing capacity last year through its Badland Batteries subsidiary.
