(KNFL/KFGO) – After a series win against the Sioux City Explorers, the RedHawks would play the Lincoln Saltdogs in the first game of a three-game series at Haymarket Park. This would be the final stretch of a six-game road trip for Fargo-Moorhead. The Hawks would go with left-hander Patrick Wicklander, who would be opposed by Lincoln’s Jacob Hughes.
A bases-loaded walk to Jose Sermo in the top of the first would start the scoring. Fargo-Moorhead would plate five more runs in the inning. Dillon Thomas would drive in a run on a fielder’s choice, but another run would score on a throwing error by first baseman Jake Hjelle. Brian Fuentes then hit a two-run single to make it 6-0.
Lincoln would get two runs in the bottom of the first on an RBI double by Tanner O’Tremba, and a Connor Bagnieski RBI single.
Tucupita Marcano would launch a three-run homer in the top of the second, and Brian Fuentes would drive in his third RBI of the night on an RBI double.
The RedHawks had a 10-2 lead until Jake Hjelle hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second. In the bottom of the third, Connor Bagnieski drove in another RBI on a double, and Calyn Halvorson singled to right field to make it a 10-5 game.
Dillon Thomas would make it 11-5 on an RBI groundout, and Brian Fuentes would stay hot as he hit his second RBI double of the night in the top of the fourth.
After giving up five runs in the first three innings, Patrick Wicklander would throw five straight scoreless innings.
Matt Kroon would get his fourth hit of the night on a solo home run in the ninth. Lincoln would get one more run on a Nick Shumpert RBI groundout, but the RedHawks would win in dominating fashion 13-6.
Fargo-Moorhead’s Patrick Wicklander was the winning pitcher, going eight full innings, while giving up eight hits on five earned runs, and striking out eight batters. Jacob Hughes of Lincoln was the losing pitcher, after allowing eight earned runs in two innings of work. Matt Kroon went 4 for 5 with two RBIs, while Brian Fuentes went 3 for 5 with four RBIs.
Fargo-Moorhead is a half game behind Winnipeg for second place in the West Division, and four games back of Kansas City for first place.
