BISMARCK, N.D. – On “News and Views”, North Dakota Attorney General Drew Wrigley strongly condemned State Senator Jeff Magrum of Hazelton’s proposed resolution to ask President Donald Trump for clemency for Scott Faul and Yorie Kahl.
They received life sentences for shooting and killing two United States Marshals near Medina, North Dakota in 1983.
Wrigley said he understands that’s hard on their families as Magrum has said.
“We all understand that, but they don’t get to determine when is that price paid. Senator Jeff Magrum doesn’t get to determine when that price has been paid,” Wrigley said. “Senator Jeff Magrum is calling on people to make the choice, and I’m supremely confident they’ll make the right one: pro cop or pro cop killer.”
Wrigley pointed out Faul and Kahl took Yorie Kahl to a clinic after shots were fired.
“They showed not one ounce of compassion or care for the mortally wounded and seriously wounded at the scene of that crime. They did not one thing to check on or care for the people that they had wounded,” Wrigley explained.
Faul is 73-years-old and Kahl is 66. They have been in custody for 43 years despite being up for parole.
“I just felt like justice isn’t being served,” Magrum said. “If you pay your debt to society and serve your sentence, you should be let out”.
