NEW TOWN, N.D. (KFGO) — The National Park Service says searchers have found the body of a hiker who’d been missing since mid-July.
The Park Service confirmed with KFGO News that Artoun Gostantian was found dead Sunday in Theodore Roosevelt National Park’s north unit. He was last seen alive July 19 in New Town.
Searches dealt with extreme heat over 100° F during the two-week long search. Rough terrain, rattlesnakes, a mountain lion sighing, and bison slowed the search.
Badlands Search and Rescue, North Dakota Highway Patrol tracking dogs, Civil Air Patrol, North Dakota Army National Guard helicopters, as well as National Park rangers and local law enforcement were involved in the search.
The National Park Service and McKenzie County Sheriff’s Office are investigating.
