(KNFL/KFGO) – It would be Spider-Man night at Newman Outdoor Field Saturday as the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks would look to win their series against the Cleburne Railroaders. The Hawks would send right-hander Kolby Kiser to the mound.
Cleburne would score two in the top of the 1st on an RBI single by Caleb McNeely, and a Frankie Tostado RBI double.
Fargo-Moorhead would respond in the bottom of the 1st on an RBI triple by Dillon Thomas, and then Jose Sermo would drive in his 799th career RBI on an RBI single to tie it at two. Jairus Richards would drive in a run on a fielder’s choice to give the RedHawks a 3-2 lead.
In the top of the 2nd, Caleb McNeely would launch a 3-run home run to left field to put the Railroaders back in front at 5-3. Later in the inning, Cody Thomas drove in two on an RBI double to make it 7-3 Cleburne. Eric Chalus would enter in relief, and Mason Minzey would join in on the scoring with an RBI single to make it 8-3.
Brian Fuentes would drive in a run on an RBI single in the bottom of the 3rd, making it an 8-4 game.
In the bottom of the 4th, Dillon Thomas would hit an RBI single, and then Jairus Richards would reach 3rd base on an error by Caleb McNeely in left field. That would send two runners to the plate to pull the RedHawks within 8-7.
Eric Chalus hadn’t given up an earned run in relief since entering the top of the 2nd, until he gave up a fielder’s choice to Frankie Tostado who made it a 9-7 lead for Cleburne in the top of the 6th.
In the top of the 8th, Caleb McNeely would add to his impressive night, as he drove in two more runs on an RBI single, capping off a six RBI performance, and giving the Railroaders an 11-7 lead. Despite a 2-run home run by Brian Fuentes in the bottom of the 8th, the RedHawks would fall short in an 11-9 loss to Cleburne.
Sunday is the final day of the 1st half of the season for the American Association before the All-Star break.
