(KNFL/KFGO) – The RedHawks hit the road to begin a three game series in Sioux City against the Explorers Tuesday night. The RedHawks would send Kyle Crigger to the mound to face Sioux City’s Joshua Landry. Kyle Crigger wouldn’t give up a hit until the bottom of the 3rd inning to D’Shawn Knowles. Knowles would score later in the inning on a RBI single by Henry George to make it 1-0 Explorers.
Explorers’ Joshua Landry was also on a roll striking out 5 RedHawks batters through 3 innings. In the 4th inning Jose Sermo would hit a two run homerun to give the RedHawks a 2-1 lead. The lead would be short lived. In the bottom of the 4th inning, Sioux City would have runners on the corners when D’Shawn Knowles hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game 2-2.
In the top of the 6th inning, Dillon Thomas would lead off with a double followed by a walk to Jose Sermo. Brian Fuentes would hit a RBI double to score Dillon Thomas and it was 3-2 RedHawks. Colby Wilkerson would get an RBI single later in the inning and the RedHawks took a 4-2 lead. The Explorers would score a run in the bottom of the 7th off a Henry George sacrifice fly making it 4-3.
In the bottom of the 8th inning, the Explorers would load the bases for Elliot Good who would hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game 4-4.
In the top of the 9th inning with Matt Walker on second base and Jesus Lujano on first, Juan Fernandez would hit a double to right field. Matt Walker would score giving the RedHawks a 5-4 lead. Jesus Lujano would attempt to score as well, but was thrown out at home plate.
Tyler Jeans would come in to pitch the bottom of the 9th inning and shut down the Explorers for his 8th Save this season.
RedHawks’ starter Kyle Crigger would go 5 innings, giving up 2 runs on 5 hits with 6 strikeouts and Explorers’ starter Joshua Landry would pitch 8 innings, giving up 4 runs on 7 hits with 10 strikeouts.
