(KNFL/KFGO) – The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks were looking to avoid a series sweep Sunday afternoon against the Winnipeg Goldeyes. Their pitching would do a tremendous job.
Dillon Thomas started the scoring for Fargo-Moorhead on an RBI double in the top of the 1st. With rookie Cole Yearsley on 3rd base in the top of the 2nd, Winnipeg pitcher, James Colyer, got called for a balk. That scored the second run of the game, as it would be 2-0 Fargo-Moorhead.
RedHawks starting pitcher, Kolby Kiser, would throw five shutout innings, while giving up four hits, and two walks. Kiser also struck out two batters. Jon Beymer came on in relief in the top of the 6th, and retired the Goldeyes in order.
In the top of the 7th, Tripp Clark drove in a run on an RBI double to make it 3-0 RedHawks. Cole Yearsley would hit a 2-run single into right field to make it 5-0 Fargo-Moorhead in the top of the 8th.
Winnipeg would score a run in the bottom of the 8th on a fielder’s choice by Jiandido Tromp, but Fargo-Moorhead would end up winning 5-1 in the series finale.
Like Kolby Kiser, Fargo-Moorhead’s bullpen was outstanding. Jon Beymer, Angelo Cabral, Mason Pelio, and Tyler Jeans would combine for four innings of one-run ball. The RedHawks snap a three-game losing streak, and are 18-21 on the season. Fargo-Moorhead is also now half game ahead on Winnipeg in the West Division.
The six-game road trip continues for the RedHawks, as they start a three-game series against the Lincoln Saltdogs Monday night. The pregame show for the series opener is set for 6:15 PM on AM 740 The FAN KNFL Fargo/107.3 FM, 740thefan.com, and the 740 The FAN mobile app.
