(KNFL/KFGO) – The same day Fargo Force goalie Sam Hrenak was drafted in the 3rd round of this year’s NHL draft by Winnipeg, defenseman Cullen McCrate was selected in the 7th round of the draft with the 216th pick by the Boston Bruins. McCrate is a USHL veteran, joining the Dubuque Fighting Saints in the 2023-24 season. He only played a total of 16 games with Dubuque, before being traded to the Fargo Force in December of 2024 in exchange for a 2026 Phase II draft pick, and future considerations. Fargo also got a 2025 Phase II draft pick in the deal.
In his only full season in the USHL, McCrate was stellar for the Force, putting up 10 goals, and 20 assists in 61 games played. He is committed to play college hockey at the University of Michigan State this fall. Three total members of the Fargo Force organization have been drafted this year, including affiliate Doman Szongoth, who was selected in the 5th round with the 156th pick by the Buffalo Sabres.
