STAPLES, Minn. (KFGO/KBRF) – A Browerville man is in custody for threatening a Staples Police Officer with a knife and fleeing the scene.
Todd County prosecutors say around 9:23 last Thursday a Staples Police Officer saw Paul Deboer, 49, walking along a street in Staples and was informed by dispatch that Deboer had a body-only warrant. The officer was calling for Deboer’s name when he turned around a pulled a knife from his hip, telling the officer to “Come take it from me”.
Court documents say other law enforcement arrived on the scene to try and get Deboer to drop the knife and fired rubber bullets at him after several warnings.
The scene led to an on-foot chase through neighborhood yards.
A state trooper tased Deboer and officers located a pipe on him and a plastic baggie with over 9 grams of methamphetamine nearby.
He is being charged with second degree assault and fifth degree possession of drugs.
