125 year old Pelican Rapids barn fire caused by car backfire

PELICAN RAPIDS, Minn (KFGO) – The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office received a report yesterday of a barn fire east of Pelican Rapids. The fire started when the barn owner and his son were attempting to start an old car in the barn using starter fluid. The owner says the car backfired and started on fire quickly spreading from the car to the barn. The car and some tools were the only value items ruined. The sheriff’s office noted no suspicious activity. The barn was 125 years old.
