MN DNR Bear
MOORHEAD (KFGO) — Moorhead Police say a black bear was seen in city limits Saturday morning.
The bear went through the MSUM and Concordia neighborhoods, and was later seen in the Morningside neighborhood. Police say the bear did not shown any aggressive behavior.
Police say the public should keep a safe distance avoid approaching or attempting to follow the animal if it’s seen. The Minnesota DNR will respond if the bear becomes a threat to people.
Black bears are commonly found in the northeast third of Minnesota, and are considered a resident species in Becker County. The Minnesota DNR says they are slowly expanding their range west and south.
A black bear was seen in Fargo in early April. North Dakota Game and Fish says that bear was likely a young male, which are known to wander hundreds of miles in search of their own territory.
