(KNFL/KFGO) – It was the series finale of a 7-game series between the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks and the Cleburne Railroaders on Wednesday night. The RedHawks had lost the last two games of the series and were looking to leave Cleburne, Texas, with a 5-2 record. Patrick Wicklander would get the start for Fargo-Moorhead, as he would be opposed by John Baker of Cleburne.
Cleburne would get on the board first in the bottom of the 1st inning, as Cody Thomas would lift a sacrifice fly to center field. Fargo-Moorhead would respond in a big way, as in the top of the 2nd, Tripp Clark would blast a 3-run home run to right field, giving Fargo-Moorhead their first lead at 3-1. The RedHawks would plate 4 more runs in the top of the 3rd, as Jose Sermo blasted a 2-run homer that just stayed fair inside the right field foul pole, making it 5-1 Fargo-Moorhead. It would be the 6th home run in 6 games for Sermo, and the 147th of his carreer. That gives him sole possession of 2nd place on the AAPB all time home runs list, passing Reggie Abercrombie.
Delino DeShields Jr. would drive in a run on an RBI double, and Cody Thomas would deliver an RBI single in the bottom of the 3rd. That made it a 7-3 game. Then, in the bottom of the 4th, Cleburne would put up 6 runs. They would get an RBI double by Cole Foster, a fielding error by Jairus Richards after a flyball by Christian Almanza that allowed Foster to score, and Almanza to advance to 2nd base, a Brantley Bell RBI single, and a 3-run home run by Delino DeShields Jr. Cleburne would lead 9-7 after 4 innings.
The RedHawks would answer on a 3 run 5th inning, getting insurance from Aiden Byrne on a bloop single, and a 2-run double by Juan Fernandez, which gave Fargo-Moorhead a 10-9 lead.
The Railroaders would put up 5 runs in the bottom of the 7th, thanks to an RBI single by Cole Foster, a fielding error by Aiden Byrne off the bat of Caleb McNeely that drove in Frankie Tostado from 3rd, and a 2-run double by Christian Almanza to make it 14-10.
Fargo-Moorhead would get a 2-run home run by Tripp Clark, but would fall just short in 14-12 slugfest in the series finale against Cleburne. The RedHawks would lose the last 3 games of the 7-game set, but they do still get the series victory.
Tripp Clark would be 3 of 4 as he hit 2 home runs, and an RBI triple, while being hit by a pitch. He drove in 6 RBIs.
Fargo-Moorhead and Cleburne would combine for 27 total hits in the game. The RedHawks would put up 61 total runs in this 7 game series, and they would score double-digit runs 5 times.
The RedHawks will head back to Fargo-Moorhead, where they will begin a 6-game homestand at Newman Outdoor Field beginning tomorrow evening with the home opener against the Kane County Cougars for a 3-game weekend series.
