BISMARCK, N.D. (KFGO) – Nearly 12 years after a man was stabbed to death in Fort Yates, North Dakota, a federal grand jury has indicted a Fort Yates man in the death.
U.S. Attorney Nick Chase says Brutus Claymore, 36, is charged with first-degree murder. Chase says the Bureau of Indian Affairs and Missing and Murdered Unit of the FBI investigated the November 2014 death.
The indictment says Claymore, an enrolled member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, broke into a home at night in a robbery attempt. When people in the home resisted, claymore is accused of stabbing the victim.
Claymore was released from custody during a detention hearing. His trial has been scheduled for June 23.
