GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. (KFGO Learfield) – The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has released more information about a shooting Monday that injured an Itasca County sheriff’s deputy in northern Minnesota.
Deputy Michael Cowan was trying to arrest 18-year-old Elias Harper and the deputy’s gun discharged in his holster during the struggle. Cowan was struck in the thigh and spent the night in a Duluth hospital.
Investigators have reclassified it as a conflict case rather than an officer-involved shooting. Deputies on the scene had active body-worn cameras.
