VALLEY CITY, N.D. (KFGO) — A missing Wahpeton man was found dead in the Sheyenne River in Valley City Saturday morning.
Valley City Police found a submerged vehicle in the river near the 1300 block of Riverview Drive Friday evening. Due to spring water levels, the vehicle could not be safely recovered. The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers temporarily reduced the water being released from the Baldhill Dam to lower the river level.
Saturday morning, police confirmed the vehicle belonged to Alfred Odden, who was reported missing April 3. Odden was found dead at the scene.
Odden was last seen on April 2 at Casey’s Convenience Store in Valley City. He had left Wahpeton April 1 to go to Fargo. He was found dead a half-mile from where he had last been seen.
Several large searches, including an aerial search, did not locate Odden. Additional searches were planned for Saturday and Sunday.
