MOORHEAD (KFGO) – Minnesota State Patrol troopers are responding to several crashes, rollovers and jackknifed semis as snow moves through on Thursday.
Sgt. Jesse Grabow tells KFGO News they are responding on Interstate-94 from Barnesville to Rothsay, and throughout the region.
“What the Minnesota State Patrol and local first responders are seeing is slippery roads. Snow accumulation and some ice underneath making it difficult for a number of motorists that are just driving too fast for some obvious poor conditions,” Grabow said.
One person was taken to the hospital after a crash near Glyndon just before 6 a.m.
The crash report says a car and semi were both going west on I-94 when they collided.
Tristan Landberg, 20 of Pelican Rapids, was taken to a Fargo hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The semi driver was not hurt.
Grabow urges people to travel with care.
“We need everybody to slow it down, increase their following distance and just make sure they’re wearing a seatbelt.”
He adds, be sure to give troopers, tow trucks and snow plows extra space to safely work.
The Minnesota State Patrol will have extra troopers out over the Easter holiday weekend.
“With holiday travel we do see an increase in the amount of traffic out there, which can potentially mean more things such as crashes, break-downs and things like that. Just getting everybody to do their part, we’ll have extra enforcement out whether it’s distracted driving enforcement or impaired driving, just making sure we want everybody to get from point A to point B and back again safely.”
More snow is expected on Friday and Saturday. Chief Meteorologist Tom Szymanski is forecasting an additional 4-8 inches of snow by the time the second system wraps up.
