ST. PAUL, Minn. (KFGO) – A 47-year-old St. Paul man is the fifth person convicted in a large-scale methamphetamine trafficking case tied to a Mexican cartel.
Federal prosecutors say Eric Rodriguez was found guilty of conspiracy with intent to distribute. Investigators say he worked with the Sinaloa Cartel, which moved large shipments of meth into Minnesota from April 2024 through March of last year.
Prosecutors say agents seized about 60 pounds of meth, 1,500 fentanyl pills, and more than $20,000 during the yearlong investigation. Rodriguez was arrested after officers found three pounds of meth during a coordinated traffic stop last fall.
The case was the result of an investigation conducted by the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office, Southeast Minnesota Violent Crime Enforcement Team, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, Drug Enforcement Administration, Minnesota State Patrol, Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Chisago County Sheriff’s Office, East Central Minnesota Drug Task Force, Hastings Police Department, Rochester Police Department, Cannon River Drug Task Force, and the New Prague Police Department.
