GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KFGO) – A St. Paul man is in the Grand Forks County Jail after leading sheriff’s deputies and Grand Forks police on a pursuit early Monday morning.
The Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy tried to make a traffic stop after seeing a vehicle that was not staying within its lane on I-29 on the southern edge of Grand Forks.
The deputy activated his squad vehicle’s lights and siren, but the driver exited onto Demers Avenue and continued east. A police officer used a tire deflation device, but the driver moved into the westbound lane and continued to South Washington Street where he turned south. The pursuit continued out of town and reached speeds of 100 miles an hour. A deputy deployed stop sticks which deflated two of the vehicle’s tires. The vehicle came to a stop, but the driver tried to take off again. A deputy used a pit maneuver and was able to pin the vehicle in.
38-year-old Aaron Wangen was arrested. He faces fleeing, reckless endangerment, DUI, DUI test refusal, and a number of other charges. No one else was in the vehicle.
