MOORHEAD (KFGO) – A former Clay County District Court judge is running for county attorney.
Amber Gustafson, a Moorhead native, is an Iraqi war veteran who was married to West Fargo Police Lieutenant Adam Gustafson. He died after suffering a sudden heart attack at West Fargo City Hall in May of 2021. After her husband’s death, Gustafson stepped down as a judge to care for the couple’s three young children.
Gustafson says Clay County is facing evolving public safety challenges that require accountability and innovation.
Gustafson has been an attorney for almost 20 years and had a private practice in Moorhead before she was appointed to the bench. She spent eight years in the Minnesota Army National Guard.
Brian Melton was elected Clay County Attorney in 2006. He says he will seek another term this year.
