FARGO (KFGO) — A Fort Totten, North Dakota man pleaded guilty to federal charges of assault and manslaughter Thursday.
33-year-old Kolby McKay assaulted his girlfriend with a knife and choked her March 13, 2024. On April 3, 2024, McKay killed Monte Kerman. Both incidents happened on the Spirit Lake Reservation.
After killing Kerman, McKay fled and was considered him armed and dangerous. The reservation issued a curfew while law enforcement searched for him.
McKay pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon, assaulting a spouse, and voluntary manslaughter. He will be sentenced at a later date.
