Human Rights Commission meeting on Feb. 19, 2026.
FARGO (KFGO) – The Fargo Human Rights Commission will be asking the City Commission for two more months to come up with a restructuring proposal.
The Fargo City Commission voted in January to dissolve the Human Rights Commission, Arts and Culture Commission and Native American Commission.
The City Commission gave the boards two months to come up with a plan to restructure in a way that taps fewer city resources, both financial and staffing.
The Human Rights Commission voted 5-1 to draft a memo to City Commissioners to ask for an additional two months to work on a restructuring plan.
The commission says it will meet for a working session in March. Items in the draft proposal include meeting quarterly instead of monthly and reducing the number of members from 11 to 5.
At the Feb. 17 meeting, City Commissioners approved the Arts and Culture Commission’s restructuring proposal. The board will stay, but there will be no city budget or staff allocated, and they will only gather when there is a project or city business where their consultation is needed.
The Native American Commission continues to work on its plan.
