GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KFGO) — Grand Forks County Sheriff Andy Scheider says the suspect in a hostage-situation in Grand Forks was shot and killed by a deputy.
Police responded to an apartment in the 1400 block of 10th Ave. N just after 9:50 p.m. Friday night. A woman called dispatch several times, saying she was holding a man hostage. Deputies responded to assist Grand Forks Police.
A drone was used to look inside the apartment. Officers saw the woman, identified as Alice Nesdahl, 47, holding an object and moving towards the victim. Police quickly forced entry to the apartment, and Nesdahl raised the knife towards the victim’s neck.
Scheinder says Deputy Cameron Bridger, who was the first officer in the door, fired four rounds and struck Nesdahl several times. Nesdahl collapsed, and the victim was immediately removed from the apartment. Other officers provided first aid to Nesdahl. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Bridger is on standard paid administrative leave. He has three years of law enforcement experience, and has been a Grand Forks County deputy since September 2025. Scheider says Bridger’s actions saved the life of the hostage.
The North Dakota BCI, Grand Forks Police, and Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the case.
