DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (KFGO) – The former chief deputy for the Benson County Sheriff’s Department appeared in court in Devils Lake Friday.
Travis Carlson is facing more than a dozen charges in Benson County, including three felony counts of tampering with public records and several misdemeanors for various charges including unlawful arrest, disorderly conduct – harassment, public servant refusing to perform duty, and failing to appear as a witness.
At the hearing, the judge agreed to some changes in Carlson’s bond. Carlson will no longer need to wear a GPS monitor or be confined to house arrest between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. He will be allowed to travel out of state for his children’s sporting events.
One thing that did not change is that Carlson cannot go onto the Spirit Lake Reservation.
Some of Carlson’s charges come from accusations of wrongful arrests of tribal members.
