SARTELL, Minn. (KFGO) — The Midwest Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed that a body found inside a car in the Mississippi River in Benton County is a man who was missing nearly 60 years.
Roy Benn was last seen September 25th, 1967 at a cafe in Sartell.
The submerged car was discovered by a fisherman’s sonar on August 10th. Crews pulled the car from the water, and learned it was registered to Benn. Human remains as well as several of Benn’s items were found inside. DNA testing confirmed Benn’s identity.
His cause and manner of death are still under investigation.
The Minnesota BCA says the disappearance was one of the longest missing persons cases in the state.
