MOORHEAD (KFGO) — Moorhead Police and the Minnesota BCA are investigating a deady shooting. Two people were killed.
Just before 4 a.m. Saturday, Moorhead Police responded to an apartment building in the 1100 block of 2nd Avenue South for a report of a shooting.
Officers found a 53- and 21-year-old dead. A firearm was found at the scene. A juvenile and another adult were in apartment when the shooting happened; neither were hurt. Police said Saturday afternoon the victims knew eachother, and investigators believe the shooting was a murder-suicide.
Police are not seeking any suspects, and no one is in custody. Police say there is no ongoing threat to safety.
Moorhead Police Chief Chris Helmick says this is the second critical incident within a week.
“We are deeply saddened by another tragic event that has impacted the Moorhead community. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and all those affected by this loss,” Helmick said in a statement.
“While Moorhead continues to be a safe and welcoming place to live, we recognize that recent events have understandably raised concerns and prompted questions about public safety. Please know that the Moorhead Police Department remains fully committed to protecting our residents and maintaining low crime rates. We will continue working diligently to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone in our community.”
The Moorhead Fire Department and the Clay County Sheriff’s Department assisted Moorhead Police.
