Jacob Langeslag (Itasca County Jail)
GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. – A Grand Rapids man has been charged with 14 counts of felony animal torture and numerous other charges for mistreating goats and dumping their carcasses on property where he was living.
The charges against Jacob Langeslag, 42, were filed earlier this month in Itasca County District Court. The goats and carcasses were found in rural Bovey. The complaint says 92 goats died under Langeslag’s care.
The property is not owned by Langeslag but he had been living there. The property owner’s daughter reported that Langeslag had left the residence and she found at least 12 goats dead in a pen. An estimated 20-30 goats were still alive. Other goat carcasses were discovered during the investigation.
Langeslag claimed an illness prevented him from taking care of the animals. Investigators say they found a Snapchat video showing Langeslag at Zorbaz Restaurant in Grand Rapids” on Feb. 22, around the time that he said he was too ill to care for the animals.
A veterinarian assisted with the investigation.
