ST. PAUL, Minn. – A bill to create an Office of the Inspector General is stalled in the Minnesota House.
The bill cruised through the Senate, and the author, Democratic Sen. Heather Gustafson of Vadnais Heights is frustrated that the House blocked it. She hopes the bill gets a second chance during the special session.
The office would serve as an independent watchdog focused on preventing fraud and misuse of tax dollars in state agencies and publicly funded programs.
House leaders say they didn’t have the votes due to the $9 million price tag.
