Derek Chauvin (July 2022)
ST. PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota’s attorney general is pushing back on the idea of pardoning ex-Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin.
Chauvin was convicted of the Memorial Day 2020 murder of George Floyd.
Attorney General Keith Ellison says calls for President Trump to pardon Chauvin show “blatant disrespect” for the law and Floyd’s family. He says a pardon would set society back and hopes Trump “has enough humanity” to deny a pardon.
Chauvin was sentenced in federal and state court for the killing of Floyd. He is serving a sentence of more than 22 years.
