
ORTONVILLE, Minn. (KFGO) – A man died after going through thin ice on Big Stone Lake.
The Big Stone County Sheriff’s Office says a pickup went through the ice near Lagoona Beach just after 9 a.m. Sunday. Emergency responders were sent to the scene and divers from the Big Stone City Fire Department dive team located the man inside the sunken pickup.
Rodney Gustafson, 62, of rural Big Stone City, was airlifted to Fargo and pronounced dead at Sanford Hospital.
The sheriff’s office says on Saturday, an ATV fell through the ice on Big Stone Lake. No one was injured and the ATV was removed.
Ice conditions have deteriorated with warmer weather, and extreme caution should be used by anyone going onto the lake.
