MINNEAPOLIS – A new report examines how artificial intelligence (AI) reshapes Minnesota’s workforce, creating opportunities and challenges.
Aaron Rosenthal, Research Director at North Star Policy Action, says nearly 500,000 Minnesota workers, 17% of the workforce are at high risk of having their job impacted by AI.
He says AI is not an advancement that will be felt in just one industry. It’s going to be felt across the entire economy, and that will include a lot of workers in out-state, Minnesota.
To better mitigate the risks of AI, Rosenthal says we need to strengthen collective bargaining rights, invest in training programs to prepare displaced workers for new opportunities, regulate the use of AI in hiring and workplace surveillance, and create long-term infrastructure for assessing AI’s impact and adapting policy accordingly.
