ST. PAUL, Minn – At the State Capitol, the Republicans have accused the Walz administration of allowing fraud to be one of the reasons why the state budget forecast is projecting a $5 billion deficit at the end of the decade.
Governor Walz responded Thursday saying that his new budget plan for 2025 will tackle fraud and keep more money with the state.
He said, “Every dollar that goes out to fraud, even when we get them, and we recover what we can, that is one less dollar that we meant for the things we wanted to do whether it’s building roads or feeding children.”
Walz said his budget plan also includes cutting costs and lowering the state sales tax to help all Minnesotans. He says he will not introduce any new programs until the budget plan is secured.
