BISMARCK (PRAIRIE PUBLIC) – In 2019, North Dakota lawmakers approved a repeal of the state’s so-called blue laws which regulated what hours certain businesses could operate. With lawmakers getting the 2025 session underway there has been a proposal to bring those limitations back.
Katherine Grindberg, Executive Vice-President of the Chamber of Fargo-Moorhead-and West Fargo, says the Chamber is opposed to the plan.
Grindberg says businesses like Chick-fil-A and Hobby Lobby are two examples of businesses opting to not have Sunday hours. She says it’s something for a business to decide, and not lawmakers in Bismarck.
Grindberg says the Chamber issued a call-to-action among its members on Monday at noon and within four hours they had over 20 businesses responding who were in opposition to the plan and have not received any calls that are in support at this time.
House Bill 1150 will be heard Wednesday morning by the House Industry, Business, and Labor Committee.
