FARGO (KFGO) – A Fargo man has been charged with possession of child sexual abuse material.
Benjamin Chartier was arrested Wednesday after an investigation found he had been uploading videos of children engaging in sexual activity with other children and being sexually abused by adults.
The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation began investigating Chartier after receiving tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children who learned of the activity from the messaging company Kik.
Court records say investigators found seven files had been uploaded from Kik to Chartier’s cell phone cloud storage. Those included children between 3- and 16-years-old sexually abusing each other. At least one video showed an adult sexually abusing a 3-year-old girl.
Investigators say they also found messaging from Chartier to others about a sexual attraction to children. Chartier told investigators there were times he received child sexual abuse materials from others online and viewed the files out of curiosity.
Chartier is being held in the Cass County jail.
