FARGO (KFGO) – Cass County Sheriff Jesse Jahner is addressing recent investigations into current and former department staff.
Jahner says the department is extremely upset and disappointed by the alleged criminal behavior of three current and former deputies.
Sheriff Jahner says the Sheriff’s Office conducts thorough background investigations, but understands they will have staff who make mistakes.
“When they do, we look for ways to correct those behaviors,” Jahner says. “Internal issues can often be corrected through coaching and mentoring and when needed, disciplinary actions. Accountability, professionalism, integrity and honesty are the forefront of correcting those mistakes. But when our employees cross the line of alleged criminal behaviors that cannot be tolerated.”
Former Deputy Carson Quam is charged with possession of child pornography. He resigned from the department in September. Current Deputy Philip Larson is on administrative leave, charged in Clay County with contributing alcohol to someone under 21. Deputy Darin Viken was fired in July, and is under investigation for alleged criminal conduct that hasn’t been made public.
Jahner says people who commit this type of alleged criminal activity are not welcome in the Sheriff’s Office, or in law enforcement and should be held accountable through the criminal justice process.
