FARGO (KFGO) – The Cass County Sheriff’s Office now has new resources with a mobile command vehicle.
Sheriff Jesse Jahner says the mobile command vehicle will be used in a variety of roles and is something the sheriff’s department has sought for several years.
“Those vehicles are very expensive. A new one is anywhere between $300,000 to $400 000,” Jahner said. “We don’t use the vehicle all that often just for major incidents. So, [it’s] kind of hard to justify that much money. Especially when we’re using taxpayer dollars to purchase a vehicle that we only might only use a few times a year.”
The Sheriff’s Office purchased the vehicle for $40,000 from the Casselton Fire Department. It’s a 1993 model vehicle with only 28,000 miles.
The vehicle has been updated with mobile crime scene investigative and incident command equipment for major crime scenes in the county.
Jahner calls it “Win-Win” for both the sheriff’s office and the Casselton Fire Department.
