WAHPETON, N.D. (KFGO) – The state patrol will investigate a rollover where a Richland County Sheriff’s deputy suffered serious injuries north of Dwight.
Sheriff Gary Ruhl says deputy Steve Nelk has broken ribs, a fractured back and other injuries.
Ruhl says Nelk is hospitalized at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo and is expected to recover. Ruhl says Nelk was en route to Wahpeton for law enforcement training when he lost control of his personal pickup on Highway 81 at about 6:15 p.m. Thursday. He says Nelk overcorrected and lost control of the pickup, which rolled in the ditch.
Nelk has been with the sheriff’s department for about 12 years.
