WALKER, Minn. (KFGO) – Six boys were rescued early Sunday morning after their boat capsized while they were duck hunting in northern Minnesota.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says the boys’ boat capsized in Boy Bay of Leech Lake near the Boy River around 5:30.
One of the boys was able to call 9-1-1 and a Department of Natural Resources officer in the area responded using mapping technology. He was able to rescue the boys and had them to shore shortly after 7 a.m.
The water was about 40 degrees at the time. All six boys were treated for exposure and mild hypothermia at the scene.
Sheriff Bryan Welk says there were life jackets in the boat, but none of the hunters were wearing one.
