KINDRED, N.D. (KFGO) – Fueled by high winds and extremely dry conditions, multiple wildfires burned in southeast North Dakota Thursday afternoon.
At least three fires burned in southern Cass County and in Richland County. A fire near Walcott forced the Highway Patrol to close a stretch of Highway 46 west of I-29 due to smoke for a short time.
Early indications are that some structures near Wyndmere were burned in the fires.
Initial reports are that at least two of the fires started with smoldering brush piles.
Officials are asking people not do any burning until conditions improve.
