WEST FARGO (KFGO) – The Red River Valley Fair kicks off this weekend.
The Fair is moving to a three-weekend format rather than 10 consecutive days.
This weekend, it will run through Sunday. The next two weekends, the fair will run Thursday through Sunday.
One of the newest additions to the Fair is the renovated Ag Education building. The building has a new corn floor, soy-based insulation, farm animals, and many interactive experiences, including a model cow that people can milk, and a new immersive interactive reality room.
The immersive reality room in the Ag Education building is a first in North Dakota.
Sarah Armitage is with Immersive Reality USA. She traveled from Australia to partner with Matt Chaussee, the owner of CareerViewXR in Fargo.
CareerViewXR provides the content for the room and Immersive Reality USA provides the equipment.
Armitage said the room is like virtual reality without the headset.
“We’ve got 360 content, whether it be images, or videos, or CGI,” Armitage said. “So, as you can imagine, the wonderful creations and content that Matt and his team have got, you are able to get in there and actually visualize what’s going on and really interact with the content.”
Armitage said Immersive Reality launched in the U.K. in 2018 and has been building rooms like the one at Red River Valley Fair in the U.S. since last year.
Director of Marketing and Events Erin Fons said the Fair has also added a birthing center thanks to Chief Agricultural Officer Emily Grunewald.
“She synched up her cows to all give birth during the fair, and we’ve already had one calf born,” Fons said. “So, you have to head over to see Roy and see if you can catch anybody else being born.”
