FARGO (KFGO) – Fargo Police have released additional details on the investigation that led to the arrest of 20-year-old Amire Logan, who is accused in the shooting death of Zion Brooks, 20, at the Arbors apartment complex on 6th Avenue S. Monday night.
“[Investigators] have written and carried out search warrants, processed multiple pieces of evidence, and followed up on multiple leads which eventually led to the development of probable cause, and ultimately to the arrest of [Logan],” Capt. Bill Ahlfeldt said.
Ahlfeldt said three warrants were served, two in Fargo and one in Moorhead, where multiple guns were recovered, including one that matches the caliber of the gun used in the shooting. Another firearm seized was stolen, and a third was illegally modified.
Logan was arrested Wednesday.
“Our investigation led to a possible location of our suspect and, once that suspect was located – he was located in a vehicle – that vehicle was followed,” Ahlfeldt said. “A very public traffic stop was made in north Fargo on 12th Avenue N. and our suspect was arrested out of that vehicle. He was with a family member in the vehicle.”
Ahlfeldt said Logan was arrested on the bridge because it limited his ability to run. He is being held at the Cass County jail.
Ahlfeldt said the investigation, including the motive for the crime, is ongoing. Investigators have interviewed several witnesses who live at the Arbors and are asking for others who may have information to come forward.
On the night of the shooting, two vehicles were seen speeding from the scene and Fargo Police posted pictures of them to social media. Ahlfeldt said that when they post things like that, they could be looking for the vehicle or people for different reasons, including suspects and witnesses. He said investigators have spoken with people involved with both vehicles.
Chief Dave Zibolski said there has been a lot of work done to build relationships with residents of the Arbors over the past few years. Affelt said that helped investigators find and arrest Logan.
Zibolski and Ahlfeldt said Brooks, who is from Georgia, was living at the Arbors and had been trying to do good things in the community.
