VALLEY CITY, N.D. (KFGO) – Two Barnes County Sheriff’s deputies thought they were responding to a reckless driving complaint on I-94 but it turned out to be a driver who couldn’t stop her vehicle.
The driver, Raymie Valleen, of Fargo, called the dispatch center to report the gas pedal on her 2023 Hyundai Tuscon was stuck and she was traveling more than 90 miles an hour. She tried to stop the vehicle several times by placing it in neutral, park, and braking with no luck.
Sheriff Randy McClaflin says deputies communicated with Valleen through a dispatcher and deputies were able to position their patrol vehicles in front and behind Valleen’s vehicle as they attempted to disable the vehicle.
Valleen was able to slow her vehicle enough to drive into the median and use cable barriers to stop the SUV before it struck a slow-moving vehicle ahead of the lead deputy. She was not injured.
The incident happened Monday afternoon.
