LITTLE FALLS, Minn. (KFGO) – Authorities in Minnesota are urging riders to safely operate their A-T-Vs in response to an increase in crashes and fatalities. Morrison County Sheriff Shawn Larsen says they’ve had five A-T-V injury incidents and two deaths since late March.
He says registration has more than doubled in two decades.
“In 2002 there was over 150 thousand private and agricultural license A-T-Vs. And if you fast forward through 2021 they had well over 350 thousand A-T-Vs.”
Morrison and St. Louis County tied for the most A-T-V fatalities between 2019 and 2023 with seven each. Itasca County had six, Cass and Carlton counties reported five, and Becker County had four fatal crashes.
Sheriff Larsen recommends adults take the online A-T-V safety course and riders under age 16 complete the in-person class. All riders and passengers under 18 must wear DOT-certified helmets.
