MOORHEAD (KFGO) โ The City of Moorhead broke ground on its new Community Center Library Wednesday afternoon. The new space will be built on the grounds of the old Moorhead Center Mall.
Director of the Moorhead Library Megan Krueger says the old library is not able to meet current demands for use.
โWeโve outgrown this space, it doesnโt serve the community well any longer. This new library is going to provide these improved spaces where we can improve services, improve events, things like that,โ Krueger says.
She adds the library has become an afterthought for many residents, but says that will change when the new center opens.
โHaving this new space I think is going to draw more people in and hopefully introduce them to everything we offer [and will] provide a great meeting and gathering space for downtown,โ Krueger says.
The new center will be built where the Moorhead Center Mall once stood. It will include the library, a 1/8 mile walking track, an indoor playground, and conference and gathering spaces. Itโs expected to open in 2026.
